The Redwoods

Per our normal travel routine, on our way back from San Francisco last week we stopped off in Santa Cruz and took some time to explore our favorite redwoods.  The day before we got up around 5am to drive up to SF which, despite being early, was actually quite lovely since we got to see the last sunrise of 2013 as we drove up the coast.  Then, wandering around the city and enjoying New Year's eve festivities was a blast of course but very tiring again as we got only a couple hours sleep before we were up around 5am again to head up to Twin Peaks to watch the first sunrise of 2014 while looking over the city; it's one of our favorite things to do while we are in SF and was so, so special.  After enjoying the city for a bit longer, our very red and tired eyed hit the road and headed to Santa Cruz and as soon as we stepped foot beneath our favorite redwood giants, we woke right on up.  There's something just absolutely magical about being beneath those trees; it's so easy to breath, yet it's breathtaking to see all at the same time.  There's many different areas to explore we never really run into other people once we're in and beneath the trees, so when it's just Anthony and I and the quiet forest, I feel completely blissful and find myself just running all around (literally) feeling so free, and of course taking lots of time to just pause and admire all the beauty.  These photos don't even do this place justice!

  3. oh GOD what I wouldn't give to be in this forest right now! It's incredibly beautiful and I imagine that it must be so calming! I feel so claustrophobic in Illinois with all of the snow we just received. Writing you a letter shortly. XO

    1. Polly!
It was calming indeed, but snow sounds just as lovely! 2013 was the driest year on record for us here (so I hear) and we've gotten absolutely no rain or Winter weather at all! SO, I'm a bit jealous of the nice cold and white Winter you're having!
Hooray for letters! I'll be leaving first week of Feb for Europe so definitely want to send you off another before I leave!
